By coincidence the other day, I came across an article about dealing with the end-of-school term entitled “Saying Goodbye to the School Year” by Ellen Booth Church. For the most part, we all celebrate the success of the year with a big Yeah!, but we often forget it is a time of change. The author points out in her article that students handle the end of school good-bye differently. To ensure that it is a positive experience as much as possible for your child, she offers the following suggestions:
- Talk it Over – You can help your child bring closure to the year by inviting your child to talk about his/her experiences and changes over the past year.
- Look at Me Now! – Bring out school and home photos of the past year for reflection.
- Summer Play Dates – The summer transition will be much easier if your children know they will be getting together with some of their school friends during the summer.
- Beginning New School Year Activities – Be aware of next school year activities as they are scheduled in order to foster a sense of looking ahead to new and wonderful beginnings.

Ms. Darnell, our teachers, and I hope you have a wonderful summer break. We look forward to seeing you next August!
