Principally Speaking
Congratulations! Englewood School scored well above the county average in a recent family friendly survey. The survey results indicated that when it comes to serving and meeting the needs of our school's families we are on target and continue to make improvements. I've always said that as a parent the first thing I wanted to know about my child's teacher was "Do they care?" Based upon the surveys you completed, you feel that the teachers, administration, and staff of Englewood School do care about you and your family.

Again, congratulations on your remarkable scores in "Family Friendliness" in McMinn County. I am proud of your efforts in acknowledging the role that families play in helping all children succeed in school.

Ram Ramble 2007
The Englewood School PTO fund-raiser is the Ram Ramble 2007, which is a student participation walk-a-thon. This event will take place on Thursday, October 25, at 8:45 a.m. Funds raised from the walk-a-thon will be used to fund the 2007-2008 PTO budget, which includes money for technology, playground equipment, and classroom instructional materials.

Parent Conference Day
Parent Conference Day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 9. It is a day that can be very beneficial to students, parents, and teachers alike. It is a great opportunity for parents and teachers to develop a partnership. This partnership can set a positive outlook between the school and family for the year. No doubt, it is a great opportunity to work as a team for the educational success of your child.

There are some things that you as a parent can do to ensure that the parent/teacher conference is time well spent. Here are a few useful tips for making your conference more enlightening.
  • Write down questions you would like to talk about at the meeting.
  • Use your time wisely; the 15-minute allotment for each meeting goes fast, and there is another parent waiting to speak to the teacher.
  • Ask the teacher your child's strengths and weaknesses.
  • If you do not understand something the teacher may say, ask for further clarification.
  • Afterwards, keep the communication lines open between the teacher and home. Remember to follow up on any action that you and the teacher have agreed to take.
