January Newsletter

Principally Speaking
Happy New Year! In regards to the New Year, I am sure many of you have made New Year's Resolutions to do something to help your child in school. You may have been tempted to order one of those phonics sets advertised on television to improve your child's reading skills or, like me, buy a book or magazine describing how to help your child do better in school. Well, before you spend your hard-earned money, you might try these two suggestions I came across on the internet news.

The article stated that the Harris Gallop Poll conducted an interactive educational survey of students. This survey found that students who consistently scored an "A" had two common characteristics: 1) these students ate breakfast four or more times a week, and 2) they read books for pleasure and not exclusively for homework.

Try these two suggestions, and see if they are a help to your children. Provide a breakfast at home or school, and go to the library or bookstore to help them select a book for pleasure reading. They may not necessarily become "A" Honor Roll students, but this might just be a simple way to improve their grades and to enhance their creative skills.

MCEA Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Glenna Hearn for being selected as the Englewood MCEA Teacher of the Year. Ms. Hearn will represent our school at the county competition. Ms. Hearn is an outstanding teacher, and we wish her continued success in education.

New Computer Projectors Purchased with Concession Stand and Ramble Proceeds
With proceeds from concession stand sales and Ram Ramble donations, our school is in the process of purchasing and installing new computer projectors and 100 inch screens at a cost of approximately $12,000. This technology will finish our project for K-4 classrooms. To ensure an optimal learning experience for students, this new multimedia learning tool will allow teachers to better diversify their lessons and add a little spice to student learning. By your support and generosity, we will no doubt have some of the most technologically advanced classrooms in this area.
